No IT consultant ever plans to become a sought-after keynote speaker, TEDx presenter, and bestselling comedy book writer.
Here’s how it happened. I came to Germany in 2003 for an IT consulting project, planning to stay just few months. I’m still here. As I explain in Born in Ireland, Made in Germany, I fell in love with the land of BMW, Beethoven and beer, and set up permanent shop as an IT consultant in Munich. I have worked in the technology field all of my professional life – I have worked as CRM consultant, a BI consultant and now as a Big Data consultant. I completed a Bachelor's degree in computer engineering and a Master's degree in computer science (AI) in Ireland and have been a creature of the corporate world ever since, picking up plenty of international work experience along the way (6 countries and counting). This background gives me plenty of material for business audiences. I understand the environment and speak the language.
Years ago, I found public speaking terrifying. In 2004, I decided to face down those paralyzing fears by joining Toastmasters. Two years and many practice speeches later, I not only got over the anxiety, I also discovered I loved the rollercoaster-like thrill of public speaking. So much so that I started filling my trophy case with Toastmasters awards – winning the European Public Speaking Championship 5 times in English and once in German. Along the way, I also started practising my Irish humour as a standup comedian and, more recently, a bestselling author. My TEDx Munich comedy talk has over 65,000 views, and I’ve been featured twice on Bayerische Rundfunk. So, there it is. Technology, speaking and comedy: three passions I am pleased to be able to put to good use as a keynote speaker and master of ceremonies. |
