Mark Twain warned us long ago that life is too short to bother learning German, and he was right. I came to Germany in 2003 for an IT consulting project, planning to stay a just few months.
I’m still here.
After ignoring Twain and taming the German-language beast, I set up permanent shop as an IT consultant in Munich. I have worked in the technology field all of my professional life. I completed a Bachelor's degree in computer engineering and a Master's degree in computer science in Ireland and have been a creature of the corporate world ever since, picking up plenty of international work experience along the way (6 countries and counting). All this experience helps make me a perfect speaker and trainer for business audiences. I understand the environment and speak the language.
Years ago, I found public speaking completely scary. In 2004, I decided to face down those paralyzing fears by joining Toastmasters. Two years and many practice speeches later, I not only got over the anxiety, I also discovered I loved the rollercoaster-like thrill of public speaking. So much so that I started filling my trophy case with Toastmaster’s awards – 5 for winning European Public Speaking Championship in English, and 3 for scoring second place in German. It’s a passion I am pleased to be able to put to good use as a keynote speaker, trainer and master of ceremonies.
More recently, I have also been putting my Irish humour to good use as a standup comedian (link here) and have released a bestseller book (link here).
